What Really Happened In The 90s?, Wednesday, 13.45, BBC Radio 4

Five more programmes throughout the week from Robert Carlyle as part of Radio 4’s nineties season which will again analyse how the seeds for our current situation were planted in what at the time seemed like a particularly uneventful decade. Elsewhere this week there’s discussion over Europe, Iraq, Hong Kong and transport, and today it’s a look at race relations. Seems like these days it’s a more fraught subject than ever, but as will be argued here, although it seemed to feel in the nineties that the overt racism and discrimination of thirty years or so previously was long gone, for many things hadn’t improved all that much.
