Michigan County Sheriff’s Office Limits In-Person Responses After Spending Entire Gas Budget

Wayment! While rising gas prices got folks stretching their coins, one police department doesn’t even have that option! According to @newschannel_3, the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook on Wednesday to announce changes to how they respond to calls from the community!

“Isabella County Sheriff’s Office is feeling the pain at the pump as well,” the sheriff wrote. “We have exhausted what funds were budgeted for fuel with several months to go before the budget reset.”

The sheriff’s office fiscal year reportedly begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. This means the department has nearly four months to go before their coins are back in the bank. In response to their empty wallets, the department is limiting their in-person responses and resorting to assistance via phone.

“I have instructed deputies to attempt to manage whatever calls are acceptable over the phone,” the sheriff wrote. “This would be non-in-progress calls, non-life-threatening calls, calls that do not require evidence collection or documentation.”
