Glastonbury: 50 Years and Counting, Sunday, 21.00, BBC2

It’s 25 years since BBC Television covered Glastonbury for the first time, after a few years on Channel Four, where the coverage began on the Friday at the prime slot of quarter to one in the morning and totalled under ten hours over the whole weekend. Compare that to this year when there’s more than that on the Friday itself and there’ll be hours of it on all four channels, including on primetime BBC1 – although there was a bit more pop music on primetime the rest of the year in those days. But in those 25 years it seems to have taken on increased relevance and profile every time, now as much as part of the British summer as the Proms. The fiftieth anniversary event should have been in 2020 but that went for a burton, so the celebrations finally get underway with this extended documentary which examines its influence musically and socially, with seemingly every single headliner taking part.
