The Field Of Dreams TV Series Is Nixed At Peacock

The Field of Dreams TV show, an adaptation of the classic 1989 Kevin Costner movie from The Office veteran and Good Place creator Michael Schur, has been nixed at NBC’s Peacock, according to Variety. The show may not be totally dead, however.

The site reported that production company Universal Television is now out on the town shopping the series to other potential partners, though none were named. Deadline, meanwhile, reported that the Field of Dreams TV series has been casting already and production was about a month away from beginning. The site said the writers already had seven hour-long scripts finished and ready. Filming was due to take place in Iowa, the setting of the original movie, as well as Boston, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles, the report said.

In 2021, Peacock made baseball fans happy by announcing the show and ordering it directly to series. The show was billed as a re-telling of the original movie, with a farmer building a baseball field in the middle of nowhere, with ghosts of iconic ballplayers coming to play.

The Peacock series was part of Schur’s new deal with NBC that pays him $25 million per year for five years, for a total of $125 million.

The series was announced not long after Major League Baseball celebrated the Field of Dreams movie with a real MLB game between the Yankees and White Sox at the Field of Dreams in Iowa.

In addition to Costner, the movie featured James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta, who recently passed away. The film was nominated for Best Picture.

While Field of Dreams may not be happening at Peacock anytime soon, baseball fans can look forward to Amazon’s series “A League of Their Own,” which arrives August 12.
