Brum Britain, Saturday, 20.00, BBC Radio 4

We’re not saying there should be a blue plaque or anything, but there is a Birmingham connection with the early days of TV Cream, as the Creamguide Editor went to university in the city and would happily while away many afternoons reading the Radio Times back issues in the much-loved Central Library (they’re still there in the new library, BTW) before reading and making our earliest contributions to the site from its internet centre. We had a great time there so we’re pleased Brum is getting its moment in the spotlight, given it’s so often been the butt of the joke. It’s all change even since we were there a quarter of a century ago, and on our recent we think they’ve now achieved what they were trying to do in the sixties in terms of town planning, making the city hugely accessible both by car and on foot, only this time without shoving pedestrians into endless gloomy subways. And here’s proud Brummie Darren Harriott, alongside some other famous residents, to celebrate the second city and explain why they’re so proud of it.
