The breathtaking beauty and talent of Jo Raquel Tejada — better known as Raquel Welch — will be on full display when she gets her first Summer Under the Stars daylong celebration of films on Turner Classic Movies today. Among the 12 titles being shown are three making their TCM premieres: the 1969 thriller Flareup, and the Westerns 100 Rifles (1969) and Hannie Caulder (1971). For nearly 40 years, beloved actor Spencer Tracy was a fixture on the silver screen as one of Hollywood’s most famous stars, and from some of his earliest days in the business right up to the very end, he was also a fairly regular face at the Oscars, racking up nine nominations and two wins over his career. The often soft-spoken yet strong characters Tracy portrayed have also long been familiar to viewers of Turner Classic Movies, especially during the network’s Summer Under the Stars event, to which the actor returns with today’s 12-film lineup. Included among the titles are two movies in which Tracy earned Best Actor Oscar nominations, San Francisco (1936) and The Old Man and the Sea (1958); three of his onscreen collaborations with longtime real-life partner Katharine Hepburn, in the George Cukor-directed films Keeper of the Flame (1942), Adam’s Rib (1949) and Pat and Mike (1952); two films with Tracy portraying notable historical figures: Thomas Edison in Edison, the Man (1940) and Capt. Christopher Jones, captain of the Pilgrim ship Mayflower, in Plymouth Adventure (1952); and more.

In each special, Kenda will lead viewers through labyrinthine cases that have plagued him for years. Never Give Up focuses on the investigation into the 1987 murder of a female soldier, whose killer remained an elusive shadow in the night for decades.

This half-hour live-action series entry in the MCU stars Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, a lawyer who specializes in superhuman-oriented legal cases. It follows the single, 30-something professional as she navigates her complicated life — which becomes a lot more complicated when she begins turning into a powerful, 6-foot-7-inch, green-hued version of herself following a blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner, who, of course, has a similar issue. Mark Ruffalo reprises his film roles as Banner and Smart Hulk, and other MCU vets popping up here include Tim Roth as Emil Blonksy/the Abomination, who was introduced in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, and Benedict Wong as Wong, from the Doctor Strange films and other MCU entries. A notable newcomer to the MCU is Jameela Jamil as Titania, a superstrong rival of She-Hulk’s in the comics. Disney+, which had been premiering its series on Wednesdays, is trying something new with this one, which will have its episodes available on Thursdays starting today.

Toshirô Mifune, one of Japan’s most acclaimed and recognizable actors ever, returns to Turner Classic Movies’ Summer Under the Stars in an 11-film lineup that includes the TCM premiere of Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo (1970), an entry in a long-running series of action dramas about blind swordsman Zatoichi (played by Shintaro Katsu). Most of the day will understandably be devoted to a number of Mifune’s famed collaborations with legendary director Akira Kurosawa: Rashomon (1950), Scandal (1950), Seven Samurai (1954), I Live in Fear (1955), Throne of Blood (1957), Yojimbo (1961) and High and Low (1963).

The titles in the lineup encompass 30 years of her career, ranging from the famous 1932 drama Grand Hotel and its all-star cast to one of the actress’ final few films, the cult favorite What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), which costars Best Actress Oscar nominee Bette Davis.
