imagine… Mel Brooks Unwrapped, Thursday, 20.00, BBC4

We can’t remember what brought it on, or particularly want to, but during one of P**rs M*rg*n’s umpteen spells of soiling himself for attention last year he somehow got it into his head that Blazing Saddles would never be shown on TV again because it wasn’t, sigh, “woke” enough, which would have been a stupid comment at any point, but even less so given it was in the same week it was being screened on that well-known unwoke channel for the common man, BBC4. And they’re showing it again tonight as part of a Mel Brooks bonanza alongside The Producers and this doc from 2018. Of course, Alan Yentob has always been eager to impress on everyone his close personal friendship with Mel, to some derision, but presumably Mel doesn’t need to hang around with him if he didn’t want to, and it’s always worth hearing from him.
