Apple TV+

Apple TV+ conjures up more spooks from books in Season 3 of its kids and family show Ghostwriter, streaming now.

When a ghost haunts a bookstore and releases fictional characters into the real world, friends Nia (Princess K. Mapp), Samir (Nour Assaf) and Charlie (Daire McLeod) work to solve the mystery surrounding the ghost’s unfinished business.

This season, they encounter characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Charlotte’s Web, Bayou Magic and more. Helping to bring the characters to life are guest stars Randall Park, Jay Baruchel, Jean Smart and Iain Armitage.

Mapp, who played Sahai on the CBS comedy The Unicorn, solves the riddle of our “5 Questions.”

1. Can you tell us about a time you were starstruck?
I remember I was doing a commercial for Gatorade and I was playing young Serena Williams. I was fully aware that I was going to see her but when I first met her, I was so amazed. My heart was racing and I was just shocked I was talking to Serena Williams. It was one of my favorite commercials I’ve ever done.

2. What’s a book that you recommend to your friends?
The Hate You Give is a book I will always recommend. I’m sure a lot of people have seen the movie, but the book really tells the story from a Black teenage girl prospective. You can have an understanding on what it is like to see racism and police violence upfront. It’s a book that you read and afterwards look at the world so differently.

3. What’s your favorite sports team?
I’m not really a big sports fan, but I do like the Lakers. I remember going to a game when I was younger and after that I always supported them. Basketball is one of the sports I’m actually good at. Fun fact: My little brother was named after Kobe Bryant.

4. What’s a movie you can watch over and over again?
Grease is a movie that will never get old. My mom introduced it to me and ever since then it’s always been one of my favorites. Frenchie never fails to make me smile. I always take the opportunity to turn someone into a Grease fan.

5. What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?
I haven’t done many scary things in life, but one memory comes to mind. My family and I were in Hawaii for vacation, and we were planning on going to the beach to cliff jump. I thought I wasn’t afraid of heights, but as soon as I got to the edge, I froze. If it wasn’t for the people up there, I wouldn’t have jumped.
