Record Snow In Orchard Park, Home Of The Buffalo Bills, Is As Tall As Josh Allen; Driving Ban In Place

Part of what makes Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen such a threat is his ability to both throw a deep ball while standing tall in the pocket, but also move his six-foot-five-inch frame down the field with speed and agility.

But today in Orchard Park, New York, the suburban home of the Bills, nearly six and a half feet of lake-effect snow is making pretty much any speed and agility impossible.

At least one weather spotter is reporting this week’s storm has dropped a stifling 77 inches of heavy, wet snow on Orchard Park. Yes, that pile stands exactly as tall as Josh Allen. If he were to stand tall in that snowfall you might be able to make out just the crown of his helmet.

More likely, with the impact of winds and drifting snow, the Bills would want to send out a rescue team for their multi-million dollar asset.

The 77-inch figure is on top of a New York state record for the most snowfall in a 24-hour period of 66 inches, averaging out to almost three inches per hour sustained.

Saturday morning local officials and Governor Kathy Hochul were warning that the historic storm has created dangerous conditions on roads and even around homes, where blocked vents could increase the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

A rare driving ban is actually in place for portions of the Buffalo area.

Allen and the Bills will not be battling in the snow this weekend. The home game scheduled to be played against the Cleveland Browns was moved to Detroit by the NFL earlier this week to avoid dealing with the storm.

And the snow isn’t letting up just yet. A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in place for the Buffalo region through Sunday afternoon, with as much as another foot of snow expected and winds up to 45 miles per hour to help stack it higher.

Stay warm and safe out there.
