13-Year-Old Leads Nebraska Troopers On 100 MPH Chase

A 13-year-old Colorado girl led Nebraska troopers on a high-speed chase that lasted almost twenty minutes Monday evening. According to Today, the girl exceeded 100 miles per hour, while driving with an 11-year-old passenger.

The Events That Led To The High-Speed Chase

According to the outlet, Nebraska state troopers attempted a traffic stop of the Pathfinder around 9:35 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle was initially driving 35 miles per hour on Interstate 80, which is under the posted minimum speed limit.

When a trooper attempted to pull the car over, the driver accelerated and fled east on the interstate. Authorities say the car hit speeds over 100 miles per hour.

During the pursuit, authorities used “stop sticks” and “a tire deflation device” to slow the vehicle down. Troopers were able to finally put the vehicle to a stop after it exited the interstate and lost speed.

As it fled eastbound on I-80, another trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks at mile marker 288 to slow the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then exited I-80 at the Shelton interchange and began traveling northbound at slower speeds.

The chase lasted approximately 16 minutes, as reported by the outlet.

The 13-Year-Old And 11-Year-Old Were Reportedly Found With Paraphernalia In The Car

According to a news release from authorities, the Nebraska state troopers “located a firearm in the vehicle.” As well as a “small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.”

Both children were “placed in protective custody.” And the 13-year-old driver was cited for “flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and numerous traffic violations.” According to NBC News, the 11-year-old was cited for “carrying a concealed weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.”

According to 9News, the 11-year-old passenger is also from Colorado. Authorities have not released the names of either child.
