Qualcomm schedules an event for March 17, new Snapdragon 7 chipset incoming

Qualcomm China posted an announcement for a local event that will take place on March 17. The American company is expected to introduce a new midranger chipset from the Snapdragon 7 series, as the Gen 1 variant also arrived in the spring.

The name of the new platform is not confirmed, and rumors are suggesting the logical Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 but we could very well see Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 to match the Snapdragon 8 flagship naming scheme.

There is scarce info on this new chipset, but according to one leaked Geekbench listing, the Snapdragon SM7475 chipset has one Cortex-X2 core at 2.92 GHz + three Cortex-A710 at 2.5 GHz + four Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8 GHz. The GPU is said to be Adreno 725 at 580 Hz, one leakster claimed.

If all the info is correct, this will be the first time Snapdragon uses Cortex-X2 on a midrange chipset. The platform is said to be built by TSMC on the 4 nm process technology, meaning it should be slightly more power efficient compared with products made by Samsung Semiconductors.
