Challenge Anneka, Saturday, 20.50, Channel 5

We know a lot of people have not done themselves many favours on social media, but we like Anneka even more thanks to her enjoyably foul-mouthed Twitter feed, and now she’s back with a new series of The Challenge Programme, as she always pedantically referred to it. It’s not the first time it’s been revived, mind, as she did a couple for ITV back in 2006, but everyone seems to have forgotten about that. It was a big show in its day and Creamguide used to enjoy it, as much for the glimpses behind the scenes of TV and radio shows as she rallied people to take part, though we’d bailed out before the end of the original run and we would say we went off it when they started revealing the challenges in advance in the Radio Times. Since it ended shows like DIY SOS have taken on its mantle, and while it’s easy to suggest some of these projects shouldn’t have to rely on charity, we do know a lot of otherwise cynical people who always have, er, something in their eye at the end of DIY SOS. It’s certainly nice to have a programme which is about people just being really pleasant to each other, so we welcome it back.
