Scandal: Jeffrey Archer and the Call Girl, Thursday, 21.00, Channel 5

Earlier this week we had an example of one Channel 5 staple, a programme having a different name on screen than billed, and now here’s another familiar bit of business from this channel, a programme that’s previously gone under one name getting a re-edit and a new title and promoted as a new show. Still, it’s an entertaining enough jaunt through his career, and it’s odd to think now given how much ridicule he’s generated that he was hugely successful in the eighties as a writer, with his books selling by the truckload and adaptations of Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less and First Among Equals being extremely high profile dramas for the Beeb and ITV respectively. But as those who have studied his career over the years would doubtless confirm, his skills as a writer of fiction seem to have extended to his autobiography and nobody seems to know exactly what is and isn’t true about his colourful private life, as will be illustrated again here.
